Temperament Based Medicine

Traditional temperament-based medicine modalities include fundamental systems of medicine practiced in different parts of the world for millennia. Traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda and Unani-Tibb form the foundation of these modalities and though innately different in their practice, share similar core foundational principles. These age-old systems of medicine are still relied upon today to provide quality health care in large parts of the world.

In the Islamic world, Greek Medicine is known as Unani Medicine or Unani-Tibb. “Unani” is the Arabic word for “Ionian”, or Greek. Unani-Tibb is therefore the practice of Greco-Arab medicine, refined by the Prince of physicians, Ibn Sina or Avicenna as known in the west.

Traditional Chinese medicine is the oldest, recorded, traditional system of medicine and offers comprehensive diagnostic capabilities and treatment. It is within these two powerful systems of medicine that our principles of practice are based. The practice of traditional medicine does not negate a sound clinical approach. In fact, it is with this approach that the formidable strength of these modalities is harnessed to provide a level of care rarely seen today.
